I was drooling over the Dyno Sources GMC because my grandfather helped to build them (and because Dyno Sources is amazing), Alex Birch (my grandpa) was one of the guys in the shop, back in the day that built and tested those coaches that are a cult today. I remember falling asleep in one of the bunks of their coach listening to grandpa playing the harmonica by the camp fire. To date they are still ahead of their time, front wheel drive, aluminum skin over an aluminum skeleton. Thanks to the crew at Dyno Sources for keeping this wonderful piece of common sense engineering on the road? kind of like a big mini? front wheel drive, well engineered………yep, kind of. Oh yeah kudos to making one go 102mph, I’ll be crossing my fingers waiting for you to go 150 or 160…………rock on.

The joy of mini! last weekend went to Oak Harbor cruze to visit the Whidby island cruizers. Nice show! lots of beautiful cars, tons of old American metal, and a smattering of English rust for spice. I met with Bill, and Don and Lillibeth was one of three mini’s there at the show. I want to thank those two for introducing me to the Seattle mini owners Association. SAMOA? which is more or less a support group for mini owners like me in need of a 12 step program for the affliction that is the mini. I learned a few things there.
1. Not all classic mini’s are considered the “same” a 1963 mini and a late model Rover mini like mine share the same pedigree, but not the same stigma.
2 They really all do have names, and there was a discussion concerning the value of the name, and weather they actually run better with a name, and I think they probably do (see previous post) Don had a nameless mini, and I believe is working to rectify that situation.
3. Mini owners not only like to show people their cars, but most invite people in to look around, and play inside (especially kids) mini’s make people happy, and mini owners enjoy spreading sunshine.
I had a great time, the weather was nice, and aside from my alternator going psycho, everything was wonderful.
I’m off to find a soultion for my alternator….
